How To Remove the Start Button in Windows 8.1 and Get Extra Taskbar Space?
In this post, we will be sharing a small free tool created by a hb860 @ WinAero called StartIsGone. This tiny free tool has the function to remove the start button from your Windows 8.1 taskbar.
Personally, I love this tool because I found that the start button in Windows 8.1 was not that functional at all. Why? The answer is because it doesn't act like the start button we once see on older version of Windows. So, if you have the same problem like me, I recommend you to download and use this tool. Besides removing the start button from your taskbar, the benefit of using this tool is you can get extra taskbar space.
The developer said that this app is native (no .NET required) lightweight zero-privileges portable program, and the interface of the app is only an icon and a context menu which you can access from your taskbar system tray, very simple isn't it? ^^
HOW TO USE:
- First of all download the app using the link provided at the end of this article.
- Extract the ZIP file using WinRAR or other extracting programs, and double click on the .exe file to run the app.
- After running the app, you will now see that your start button has disappear, and you will see the app's icon showing on your system tray.
- To start StartIsGone and remove the start button when Windows 8.1 starts, click on the Run at StartUp option that the app provided.
