Run Metro Style Apps in Windows 8 on Netbook Computers

Windows 8 Developer Preview is another great operating system from Microsoft that has been released to internet for testers, developers, and you (if you download it :P) that wanted to enjoy Microsoft's new thing. Windows 8 comes with new Metro UI applications that can make you feel more comfortable doing stuffs.

But there is a little thing on Windows 8 that some people including me does not like. The thing that we do not like is the Metro UI apps in Windows 8 can only run in 1024 x 700 screen resolutions. So, it could not run on a netbook PC with 1024 x 600 screen resolutions.

Even if you can see the start screen with Metro UI running on your PC, you will be restricted to run items that are in it, so you can only click the tiles.

Luckily, there is a registry hack that we can do to make the Metro UI style apps to run on Windows 8 if you are using a netbook PC!

To make your netbook PC run apps with Metro UI, follow the tutorial below.

1. Open Resgitry Editor.

2. Now, hit the Ctrl + F hotkey combination, and search for Display1_DownScalingSupported.

3. If it is founded, double click on the value, and set it from 0 to 1.

4. Now exit the Registry Editor, and reboot.

5. Now, do a right click on your desktop, and hit Screen Resolutions.

6. Change it to 1152 x 864 or 1024 x 768.

7. Now you will see the Metro apps running as well!
